    DefaultWhat To Put In Crate

My puppy arrives on Tuesday. I believe I have everything I need. My question is, besides something such as a crate safe kong toy, what can I leave in the crate? I will feel bad for him to have to lay on a cold plastic floor in the crate. I understand that something such as a blanket not a good idea. I see conflicting advice all over the place. So I came here to get opinions from the experts. I just want the poor guy to be comfortable as possible.

    Thanks,

    Joe

you can try a blanket but I would start for a short period (you should anyway, start with crate games to get the dog used to the crate and make it a happy place then slowly start closing the door and start leaving for short periods of time). Some dogs chew the blanket so it isn't good, but you can try.

Labs like cool surfaces. You can try a blanket or towel, but don't be surprised if he bunches it up in the corner and sleeps on the tray.

To help with the padding I put a towel between the crate & tray. Just make sure the edges are tucked under so he can't pull the towel out.

Since our crate is in a cooler area of our house we add a crate pad in the fall/winter months, and a toy or two. I would stay away from blankets and anything else that a puppy could rip apart.

Although many people dont like crate pads, if your puppy leaves it alone, I dont think theres anything to worry about.

Thank you all for your responses. I will just throw in a Kong toy and hope that he is occupied and comfortable. I am going to be one of those selfish bastards that wants a puppy/dog that works all day and I feel guilty, BUT, I leave at 740am for work, I have a dog walker coming at 1030 for 30 min, then they return for another 30 min at 2pm, then I get home around 5-530. I hope that will be fair enough to the little guy!

Being very young he most likely will sleep most if the time. My schedule is much the same, my pup is doing great.

Put his crate in your bedroom next to your bed.

You can put your hand throught the bars to show him he's not alone.
