    DefaultHelp... Itchy pup... Sand Fleas?

My poor little pup has had fleas all summer and now into the fall. We think they are sand fleas because we have not seen them around the house and we do not have any bites (she spends a lot of time at the beach). We give her frontline monthly, we have given her flea shampoos at home and we took her to a professional groomer for a flea bath. We are also constantly using one of those fine toothed combs to try and get them off of her. It looks like they really like her little belly. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can get rid of these? The poor girl is so itchy and we don't know what to do. I know those treatments can be poisonous for little pups so we are hoping there may be a natural remedy.

    Thanks!

    Tilly

I previously used Frontline without any problems but noticed last year that it seemed to not work anymore. My vet had me switch to Vectra 3D and I have not had any problems since.

I read somewhere in small amounts garlic in their food helps to discourage fleas . Presumably this is why blue buffalo has garlic in theirs.

Are you sure it is fleas vs dry skin due to baths ? Perhaps some vegetable oil in his food? I give my Max a fish oil capsule in a bit of peanut butter he loves it.

It's definitely fleas. We can see the little critters bouncing around on her belly. UGH! I will give the garlic a try.

Do you give Max the fish oil for dry skin?

Max gets fish oil for dry skin. Seems to help prevent itching.

I have the fish oil because my doc told me its good for my heart.

Edit: max is on Trifexis for heartworm. The vet tells me it also helps with fleas which I can atest to. 2-3 days before he is due for the next monthly pill we see the critters jumping around his belly

we had to switch from frontline here, too. We don't have fleas so bad but ticks. Our vet also had us go to Vectra 3D. It works very well. I've heard lavendar oil repels fleas, but do not know much about it, I would research it before trying it on a puppy.
