Smokey's first obedience class is this evening at 7. This is what time we usually go out for about a half hour for unleashed play. Do you recommend I let him run off his energy good this afternoon before we go to class? The class is an hour long, I don't want him to go already exhausted but I also don't want him to go with all of his pent up energy and have him be unruly. I want us to get the most out of it. Not sure what to do for him to prepare him the best? I know he is going to be overly excited at all of the new people and new dogs, I want to help him the best I can. Typically we play a lot in the morning and then go in and out for the afternoon and then evening we play hard again. Thanks for your insight!
I used to arrive 20 minutes before Dylan's class and give him a warm up outside doing obedience - even just a sit stay will tire him out !
Well as it's a puppy class, your dog probably won't be the only one with extra energy. I would let your pup run around to get some of the excess energy off, but I would make sure your pup is a little bit hungry before you go to class - that way your pup should be a little more willing to work for treats.
