DefaultNeed help! Bella won't go potty unless we are with her!!

We just got home with Bella and although she loves the back yard, she is really struggling with going potty alone. In Vegas, we had to have her on a leash at all times outside the apartment. So it only makes sense that she wants us there, but we need to break that. Although we are outside with her during play time and walks we want to open the door and let her go do her business without us having to step out with her every time. What do we do? She just sits on the porch forever, or she will start barking and whining. Poor thing, she just doesn't get it that she can do it all by herself now!

Sorry I'm no help, Sammi would prefer her privacy and has the exact opposite problem. I'm sure with time Bella will figure it out, I'm just not sure how you can get her started. Good luck- Di

I once saw pee sticks. Not sure what they're actually called, but you plug them into the ground to sort of get your dog to know where they can go. I wonder if it would be worth a try.

Another idea is to tell her before you let her out the door to 'go potty' or whatever you normally would say to her but then watch her from a window versus the door, and if she's successful, reward her afterwards?

Teddysmom, hmmmm I've never heard of pee sticks. Wish I had those years ago when raising our sons. lol
Bella is doing better since I posted this, she still needs me to walk around with her at night, for whatever reason she does her poo at the back of the yard up against the fence. But funny thing the shadows the fence create in the night spook her, so her hair stands up, it's comical to watch her reaction, barking and the like.
Thanks for your reply, I appreciate the advice.
