DefaultSpike tested positive for Rocky Mountain

Upped his antis and we'll talk about a plan of attack on Monday (probably more blood tests) I started giving him vitamins - Nuvet - as suggested by the breeder. He's bored out of his mind because his favorite thing in the world to do is roam the yard and we have to take him out on a leash so he doesn't get into anything or try to overexert. He's not (visually) acute and not quite clinical ( hasn't shown alot of symptoms) so that is also lending to the confusion. If anyone has had any experience with this I'd appreciate hearing about your experience. Thanks!

I never heard of that happening in the north east! Did the vet see any other cases in your area? I am shocked!

Thanks, I know what a tick is. I had one on my leg it was scary. I screamed then had my dad get it off since I do not trust myself enough.

I just found out a friend had it when they were 16. I asked the vet and she said that, yeah, it's around more than we think. Of course now we hear all the stories. A guy my hub works with lost his dog to it a few years back. So far it looks like Spike got a very mild case of it or his body has a really good immune system but until long term tests come back with the proper readings I'll be apprehensive. I'm anxious to see his next blood test.

Spike's "sitter" works at the local pet store too and said one day they had a couple come in with their dog. The dog must have had a hundred ticks on it - they were from Canada and didn't know what a tick was and let their dog run in the woods, tall grass everywhere. They ended up taking it to the vet to get them all off and tested. Talk about a horrid vacation

Never heard of Rocky Mountain - thanks for the info, good to be aware! Hope Spike is able to run in your yard soon - nothing harder than keeping a 7 month old lab from running around.
