    DefaultPuppy Dander??

Avery is about 15 weeks old. Black Lab Mix, and he has bad puppy dander. It's embaressing taking him to puppy kindergarten or when people come over and he has white flakes all over. I dont think a bath will help with this, possibly make it worse and dry out the skin. How do I solve this issue? Our puppy instructor told us to take a 1/4 tablespoon of olive oil and mix it in his food once a week. That it will help with his dander and make his coat shinny. Has anyone ever done this? or had this issue?

Are you sure its puppy dander? Malone had white flakes on his skin, especially after a good scratch, and we discovered it was wheat allergies. once we switched his food, the scratching and flakes went away.

you could also try fish oil, a lot of ppl on this board recommend it, and i think i'm going to supplement malone's with it..

I'm pretty sure it's puppy dander. He's had it since we got him 3 weeks ago. He was on Science Diet before we got him. Switched to Nutra. The instructor said it's dander and it's normal?? I'll try the olive oil.... and look into the fish oil. Thanks

Emmett has dander when he is anxious or stresed. We noticed it at the vet last time, he went from the cinnamon sugar color to all sugar LOL!
She asked us if this was the first we noticed it and it was so she said to keep and eye on him but that it's not uncommon. He gets it a little at puppy class but I think it's getting better.
    Silly puppies!

Doesn't the listerine + water mixture help with this?

I started feeding Snoogans a food that is wheat-free and based on fish and sweet potato. She's been eating this for about a month, and her dandruff has gone away. If you don't want to change food, I'm sure the fish oil will do just as well. Hadn't thought about using that.

Brush, brush, brush and add a little fish oil to his food. If a little dandruff embarasses you - what will you do when he cuts a room clearing fart?

Be very careful about using specialized foods with puppies. If it is not labeled all life stages you could be feeding an inappropriate % of calcium.

Bailey has puppy dander, she has had it since we got her at 8 weeks (she is 19 weeks now). We asked our vet and she said it was no big deal, just due to the cold and dry air (we live in boston). So we will see once spring comes...if it ever does!!!
