I'm hearing alot about how people should eat first and then the pets. I usually feed the critters between 4 - 5 at night and then we usually eat 5:30 - 6. Is there a time span where Spike's clock will reset itself to not think he ate first?

I never paid any attention to that people should eat first stuff. I think it comes from that train of thought that pack leaders eat first. Same thing as the "you must walk through a door first" thing. Now, if I had a real dominant dog who was always trying to boss me around, I might consider doing this. Caleb's dinner time is generaly around 6 PM, unless we're going somewhere. Our dinner time? Whenever (it's just my husband and me at home now).
Nope. Boys eat first. No big deal. I'm just not ready to eat at 4:45am or 5:15pm.

Mine eat first too. I always eat a snack when I get home though, so maybe they think I am eating first? Either way, they eat at 5 and we eat at 7.

Nope, my dogs eat at 8 am and 5 pm, I'll eat whenever my coffee is ready, and at 6 or 7 or sometimes 8 pm.
My dogs got out the door (HORRORS!) ahead of me as well, since I haven't taught them how to put the key in the lock yet.
The "alpha commandments" have been pretty much debunked, both in wolf research (Watch a video of wolves on a fresh kill - there's certainly no orderly hierarchy involved) and among professional dog behaviourists and trainers.
Gracie and Lola usually eat before me or at the same time as me.
no, we feed both newt and our cat first and find that neither beg at the dinner table so far.
Our dogs and cat eat before us - 5:00 AM & 5 PM. We're out of the house by 6 AM and don't eat dinner until 7 PM or later.
Nope. I eat whenever I want, and he eats at pretty much the same times every day. My only rule is no begging. If he's giving me THOSE EYES while I'm eating, he has to go lie on his bed until I'm done.
