So last night as I was taking out some laundry I came downstairs and noticed TWO wet spots. After careful inspection we realized our puppy (who is 8.5 months) had pee'd in two spots.
Malone hasn't been neutered yet, and he is FULLY housebroken. I mean, he hasn't tinkled or had an accident since September. So this was WEIRD. Is it marking? What do you guys think?
Maybe he was too busy playing to take time out to let you know he needed to go outside.
they were quite large. One on carpet and one one cement. Up until last week the only thing he's tried to hump was his doggie bed. But he was humping a few dogs at doggie daycare - which is the first time.
So yeah.... wondering if if it could be marking....It's not really a HUGE HUGE issue. I mean, we'll keep watching him and encouraging him to pee outside, etc.
Make sure you clean them really well with Nature's Miracle or something else that will kill the smell to the core or else he will continue to pee there. Did you have a dog before or did the previous owners have a dog?In the spring I'm going to give the carpets a good going over with Nature's Miracle carpet shampoo. If you have a little green machine or something like that , that also might be a consideration

quite large isn't marking usually ... marking can be as little as a one half drop of pee
often as our pooches get more perfect we get more complacent and miss a sign they need to go out (after all they are "trained" now) but the dog hasn't quite figured out how to communicate needs when we are a bit oblivious
and so there is a mistake
also watch him carefully - peeing in the house can be a sign of a looming infection ....
and you might as well book his neuter

oooh thanks so much andrea. i think you're right - it was probably just us being complacent with him, and not picking up on his normal signs.
I will keep watching him, in case he does it again.
So, do you think 9 months is ok for neutering? I have been preached at by a friend, who also happens to do Physiotherapy in dogs, to NOT NEUTER TOO EARLY! ha ha. So I guess I'm a bit paranoid. Thoughts?
My vet suggested June, which will be 8 months for Spike. He said we could wait until after the summer but wasn't too keen on that idea so sooner is better...
