Is it normal for a pup to be uncertain and afraid on walks from time to time. Since Newt isn't complete on his shots I walk him on the farmland around our house.
Sometimes he gets weird and scared to go. Could the endless smells and occasional dogs in the distance cause this and how can I help him work thru it...anyone experience this and have suggestions? Thanks!

It's normal for a pup to go through a fearful stage at this age. Don't give in to it, but, on the other hand, don't be forceful with him, either. Just let him poke around at his pace, and give him the chance to over come what he's unsure of on his own. And when he does, tell him what a good boy he is and give him a treat.
thank you! that's what i have been doing. sometimes painful to see something you love struggle
Our 6-month old lab will stop and turn around if he doesn't want to go somewhere and most of the time I don't know if he's afraid or tired and just strong-willed. Twice recently at the sheep farm near our house he stopped, woofed a couple of times, and stared into the woods as if something were there. I couldn't see anything but he didn't want to go any closer. Then he turned and started pulling for home. Could be he picked up a scent he didn't like.
