    DefaultFeeding Puppy

    Hi, 1st time posting.....
We got our puppy approx. 1 week ago and he is 10 wks old. When he was at the breeders he was on automatic feeders so was able to eat whenever he wanted. When we got him home I switched him to 1 cup twice a day with treats in between. He scarfs that down and is always searching and begging for more. He tries to take our adult dogs food also. I have increased him to 1 1/2 cups of feed now twice a day and he is still getting treats and rawhide chewies to give him something to gnaw on. He is still scarfing it down and looking for more. We are feeding him Purina Puppy Chow which is what the breeder is using. Am I feeding him too little? The bag says for his age he should be getting between 1 3/4 cups to 4 cups daily but 4 cups sees like a lot of food. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Most puppies that age would be getting between 1 and 1.5 cups 3 times a day. Breakfast, mid day and evening. I am sure he is QUITE hungry. Remember - this is a rapidly growing animal.

Rawhide is not a safe chew item for a puppy in particular and has no real food value. They can cause intestinal blockage. I don't allow my dogs to chew them ever.

agree with the above, teh average for most pups seems to be 3 cups. also agree with all of the above, no rawhide here either.

I would feed him as much as he wants and if you see him getting excessively chubby cut it down. Definitely cut down on the treats - empty calories. Rawhides are bad news. They gob up and can cause all kinds of problems. We give Spike bully sticks which break apart real easily. Kinda gross what they're made from but much safer to chew on

Lola and Gracie got 1 cup 3x a day at that age. He's growing and he is hungry.
