What can I do to stop my one year old lab from licking everyone she comes in contact with ?

That's pretty normal behavior for a friendly dog.

If she's in a sit stay it would be harder for her to lick some one. Have you done any obedience training with her?

she took the beginers obedience. and does well when we have her sit stay. but for instance my parents were down for the weekend and stayed at our house, and both my parents love the dog, but my dad can not stand to have a dog lick him. obviously i don't want to have her in a stay command for such long periods of time. anyway, i wasn't sure if there was something i could do. thanks-

It may help to have people help you train her. Meaning they ignore her for a few minutes. She's a puppy, she'll get excited at the mere sight of people coming for a visit. What escalates her excitement is people giving her attention... eye contact, pets & verbal praises, etc. Diesel used to jump all over my ex, would sit on the couch next to him & lick my ex's shaved head relentlessly, I had to separate the two of them. But that was because he would engage Diesel from the second he came through the door. I asked him to finally just humour me & ignore Diesel until he calmed down. It worked, he laid by his feet, occassionally came up on the couch for a snuggle but he wasn't slobbering all over him. It was a nice change!
