We have a 19 wk old male choc lab. He minds well to sit, stay, roll over, and lay down. However when he gets excited he wants to jump up and use us as the chew toy. I give him other things to chew on, but he has a bad habit of just jumping on me when im sitting on the couch. I push him down tell him no, and he just comes back for more and has biting "play " involved. Any suggestions?
First, read throught he training forum. There are a lot of helpful hints there.
He is still young and playful and lots of energy. He is looking for attention. You can't reward him for doing it. Ignore him, turn you back on him, DO NOT PET OR PLAY with him when he does that. But DO PET AND PLAY with him when he stops.
Do not let him take human body parts into his mouth, i.e. puppy teeth are little razors. Find alternatives for him to chew on, distract him with a toy to chase, down and stay. Remember, he is just like a young child. He will try to find a way to get what he wants, and once successful will continue until HE is ready to stop. You need to find those openings and close them immediately and consistently.
