    DefaultDuke's TPLO - Surgery on Oct. 15th, 2013

Unfortunately Duke had to have TPLO surgery on his right rear leg on Oct. 15th. Like others I thought I would share some of his progress here. He is a Red (yellow) Lab and is currently 1 year and 7 months old. For only being 1 week into his post-op I think he is doing pretty well. He is putting a decent amount of weight on the leg and doesn't seem to be in much pain. As directed, we are keeping him quiet and only outside on his leash to go to the bathroom. Below is a picture of him the day after his surgery (eyes closed) and another picture of him 8 days later. I think you can tell he is already much more comfortable!

I forgot to mention that he did have some drainage coming out of the very top of his incision for the first 6/7 days. The top of the incision is right above the bend of his knee, which is a really bad spot because as he moved it wanted to open up a little bit. It wasn't continuous; it would only happen if he moved certain ways or stretched. I took him into the vet for a follow-up and they ensured me that everything was ok and that there was no infection. It was just something else to worry about for the first few days! We havent noticed any drainage at all for the past few days!

You would need to host the video somewhere (like on YOUTUBE) and paste a link here to the video. Video files are WAY too large to post as an attachment.

Duke had his staples taken out on Oct. 30th. His incision is looking good, all healed up.

We are now in phase 2 of his rehab, which is three 5 minutes walks per day. We have now been doing those for almost a week and he is doing great. I haven't noticed any discomfort or anything. He does still have a slight limp, which is still to be expected at this point according to the vet.

Here is a short video of him walking on Nov. 4th (20 days post-op)
