    DefaultLesson #8 Picture Comments

I'm going to use this thread to make my suggestions about things I want you to change on the pictures you've submitted for this lesson. It's easier to keep track of them this way. I thought about just PMing each person, but I feel this will be a learning tool for everyone.

Linda1 - This is taken straight on. Remember your 1-2-3 Rule. If he's still available, try reshooting this with that in mind.

Monnie...that is a good idea. I tried again with the camera turned. I notice with my 50mm lens if I am too close it blurs. Now I am not sure if I should use it although that is what it says it is for. I know I have to move back if I use that lens but I hope I didn't get too far back. :

Georgie, you're right. If you get too close it will blur. That's the beauty of being able to crop a subject. When I took Robin's class, we couldn't crop. I had way to much room above Buddy's head. There was no getting around it. I got in as close as I could with the 50mm. I have now gone back and cropped the picture. It is one of my favorites of Buddy. This is the one.

It wasn't this square of a shot originally. It was taken in portrait mode. When I reworked it, it became more square.

Are we allowed to crop? I had the same problem with lots of dead space at the top of the pictures. It was hard to get close enough to fill the frame with Will. That is why I used the picture I posted. I only had a few that were in focus and full frame. I'm using the 50 mm lens too.

Does my photo look ok to you? I did wind up cropping a tad bit off the right side and bottom. Thanks!

Unless you make what I consider a big no-no, I'm not going to comment on your pictures. I want you to learn to evaluate your pictures yourselves. Things like cropping are very subjective. Go with what you like, with what you think feels right. You have to develop this ability. I'll save the rest of my comments for my critiques.
