    DefaultLesson 7 - Critique Question

Raian - I knew the background was blown it was a very bright sunny day. I just realized my ISO was set on 200. If that was lower would that have helped with the background? If not, what adjustment should I make to avoid that - or is it just tough with a black dog/light background?

I'm trying to train myself to adjust my ISO immediately when I start a photo session - but for some reason its hard for me to remember!

Thanks for the comments you guys! I appreciate all the time you all have been spending on this!!

It would have helped, but it is very hard with a black dog. I might have tried a faster shutter speed. On bright days, it is hard not to blow out the sky.

I agree with Monnie, a little faster shutter speed might have done it, but honestly with a black dog, you have to expose for the dog or he will look like a black blob. What I try to do with mine in these circumstances is limit the amount of sky visible. For instance, I would get much closer to the dog, filling the frame with more of the dog (so there is less sky).

Black dogs are a challenge, but you've done well. Keep it up!

I have the same problem with Marley. He's so dark that it blows out the sky unless I shoot at a darker part of the day. Adjusting shutter speed will help but a lot of the time you need to drop it so low you get blur in the picture if there is ANY movement. Tough shot to get right especially depending on the time of day.

A flash will help but built-in-flashes usually make things worse when I try it on marley. He gets glare from his coat if I use flash.
