What camera do you have? What are you looking for in a camera? There are many good options out there. We can help when we know what you want to get from a camera.

I really want a digital SLR - I want to take all types of pictures, I am willing to get differnet lens and switch them out - I have a really nice non-digital Nikon that is great - My digital is a Canon PowerShot - it is ok - it drives me crazy though because the quality is not good and it is slow on action shots - I am not sure what else to say...

I would recommend either the Canon Rebel XTi or the Nikon D50. Both are excellent cameras. I personally like the Canon line. I just like the feel in my hands better. I recommend going to Best Buy, Ritz Camera or somewhere and holding both to see which feels better to you. Find out which one has the controls that are more comfortable to you.

Do you have lenses for your Nikon SLR??

If so, check, they might be compatible with a digital SLR by Nikon. That would be a plus.

If you have lenses for your Nikon, many of them work on the Nikon dSLR's so I'd stick with the Nikon. I have the D50 and love it... and they are VERY resonably priced now because they are not the "newest" Nikon on the block.
