    DefaultSunsets & Exposure

I'm just wondering whether there is a general rule on settings for sunsets, besides the histogram and the light meter. I took a series of pictures last night that look good (to me) but the histograms aren't all that great.

Here is the best one (exposure wise) according to the histogram (If I'm interpreting it right). I think it is too light and the foreground should be darker. It leaves something to be desired on the composition side, but the flag and sunset attracted me. I did some with my other lens too.

Here's the pic. I'll post the histogram below it. I had a few where the left peak was running up the side of the page. . .

I think it's pretty good exposure wise. Were you going after a silhouette type photo? I would crop off about half of the dark ground at the bottom.

Thanks! What I saw in my minds eye was a silhouette. Here's one of the ones I took with my zoom lens. . .

I prefer the first one. This one is too busy for me.

Good point. I think I'm going to play around with PSP and make an avatar or something with them. Thanks for the input!

Emyly, Can you tell me how you posted your histogram? I'm still not sure I understand them.

    Linda-

I've got ZoomBrowser EX (came with my Canon software) software, and you can view the histogram when you look at the pictures. I did a screen shot (using print screen) and cropped everything but the histogram out.

Emyly, Thanks for the information. I have ZoomBrowser too, but never used it. Guess I'll have to check it out.

Here's a shot I took at the fair last Oct. I love the sunset colors. I was on the sky ride.
