    DefaultPuppy Got Bit At Class

It was a bad weekend for classes at my field. We have a lab puppy in the beginner's class, cute little guy, he's 10 weeks old.

On of the other dogs snapped at him and tore his ear. Blood everywhere. I told the owner he needed a stitch to close the wound. The owner of the dog that snapped, helped staunch the blood flow. And I'm hoping he offered to pay for the vet bill as well.

I'm still waiting to hear from the puppy owner on how the puppy is doing, etc.

What a bad weekend. I think it was the full moon....

Oh no! I hope it doesn't permanently scar the puppy - emotionally, I mean. :-\ I know all about permanent emotional scars, unfortunately.

I noticed the full moon this weekend too, and was predicting very bad things at the show! There were a lot of dogs that NQ'd that second day.

Why is a 10 wk old puppy at class? He hasn't even had all of his shots yet. I guess maybe Parvo isn't that prevalent in SC. It's a death sentence out here...year round.

Wow! I know when Caleb got bit in the ear by a Golden I had to really work to get him over it. Sorry you had to deal with it, Linda. It does happen. Not fun when it does. So far, at my place, I'm the only one who has been bit. Oh, I had a Rott go after a Flatcoat that tried to eat some of his treats but he didn't break any skin. I about broke his though! Just joking! The owner is basically afraid of the dog and I was the one who corrected him.

I try to keep an eye on all the dogs (because a lot of the time the owners simply are clueless). When this incident happened, I was working with a student and her dog on the teeter.

From now on, my mantra in the beginner classes will be "keep your dog at least SIX feet away from the other dogs".

Yes! And I have a strict no visiting policy in all my classes. I tell people if they want to get together outside of class for a play date, that is fine but not in class.
