    Defaultanother agility question (books)

What books do you all recommend?

I just got "Switching Sides" and have "Intro to Dog Agility."

I was thinking of getting Jane Simmons Moake's books but I think I have heard mixed reviews of it here (possibly?).

what are you looking for in books?
what level are you running at? aiming for?

    and the focus book..

Success with one jump is supposed to be awesome.

shaping success and 'success with one jump' (Susan Garrett)
and any of Greg Derritt's DVD's/videos, especially his agility foundations tape.

We're just starting Aiming high, of course

I generally like to read a bunch of different methods and come up with works for us.

there are some great dvds out there (see posts above) I think it was Nancy who wasn't keen on the Moakes book - I'm sure a search will dig that discussion up

some other books to think about - look for -

From the Ground Up (Kim Collins)
    In Focus
    Shaping Success
Its Not Just about the Ribbons (mental stuff - horsey but I like it)

I haven't read this one yet - but like the author and the thinking behind it
    Developing Jumping Skills (Linda Mecklenburg)

I like Simmons Moake's books - I have read one and two, but only own two. I found a bit of the material outdated, but the basics are all there.

here's the review I was thinking of

"motivational pops" sure would backfire on Brody (my masters level dog) and Thea (my prestarter dog) I suspect Sally would not work with the joy she does if I tried them either...

There have been some really good ideas on books but I would highly suggest subscribing to the Clean Run Magazine..you can do an electronic subscription for abou 20 bucks a year.

There aren't any really good agility books out there. Subscribe to Clean Run instead. Also, the Clean Run special focus issues (there have been issues on jumping, contacts, weave poles, handling, and speed/motivation) are very very good.
