DefaultWow, I forgot how hard it is...

When you have a dog that is really performing to the max for you, it's hard to remember that you had to teach that dog everything from the beginning.

Worked Ruger today and he's so into it, trying so hard to perform correctly on go outs and gloves and pivots and hand signals...

Started working Remington with "take it" on the gloves.

Oh boy, I sure have forgotten all the HARD work it takes to get a dog up to Ruger's level. Some day, Remy baby, you'll be there too

I know just what you mean. Emilu was the first dog I ever trained, so we learned everything together, and I had to undo alot of things along the way once we started showing because I hadn't taught her properly. I took us over a year to be ready for our first Rally show. Now I'm starting Skippy and I realize that I expect him to learn things much faster than she did, because afterall - "I" know how now. In fact, I probably don't train him as well because before I was paying alot of attention to how I should be training and "doing it right" and now I don't pay as close attention to what I"M doing. And believe it or not, he's actually learning faster in a way. I don't think he's to the point where he "really knows it", but he is coming along nicely - I just have to remember to give him the time and attention that I gave Emilu.

I'm with you there. My problem is it has been so long that I forget how to train certain things. Essy is making me remember.

Yep, I know that feeling. Her name is Gala and she's going to be a teenager in a couple months! Her hearing and eyesight is just fine when she wants it to be. ;D
