Depends on what you're training and how you reward. I don't reward with food. Recall is one of the most important commands I work on. I walk all dogs together daily. I train "COME" with use of the dog's name . . . so it's never just "come" but, "Molly, come" or "Jarrah, come" etc. Puppies are regularly called to "come" out of the pack and are given LOTS of praise for coming.
Other training. . . I agree with everyone else . . . the attention seeking behaviour will drive you nuts if you don't separate the dog being trained from the rest.
I have noticed this too. Angus is very competitive. I used to always work with him first. Then I realized that it was more fun for me if he was last. He has more energy and willingness to work than Simon, so it was hard to go from all-on Angus to who-cares Simon. : So then, I noticed that when Angus went last, he worked and tried even harder.Originally Posted by luvmydogz2much
I used to baby gate one in the kitchen. Now we have a Florida room, and whoever isn't working stays in there (watching, enviously, through the windows in the doors).
