    DefaultIt's Getting Fun Now!

There reaches a point in training when it starts to get fun. After teaching the dog what you want, and how to do it reasonably well, you move beyond those tiny steps and start doing the fun stuff.

Remington is understanding where heel position is, so now I'm heeling, asking him to stay/wait, I move off and keep walking as I call him to heel.

He bounds across the field after me and quickly steps in with my stride.

Of course this is all done for Cheese, but it's been a lot of fun doing more than the boring preliminary work.

He is also, unbeknown to him, learning the long down/stay. I make him down/stay while I heel Ruger around. At first this was a disaster, but persistence is paying off and now he stays probably for a good two minutes at time. We'll keep working on that

How old is Remington, he sounds like he is doing well. I'm starting puppy obedience with Jed~13 weeks~ this coming Sunday, which i am looking forward to.

My seniors are coming 11 and both went as pups to learn the basics, which they did and have retained over all these years but i have a very good feeling about Jed, from 9 weeks he'd learnt sit, down and wait and he trots along lovely on his leash, no chewing or pulling or digging his paws in and not moving.

I hope to go a bit further with him than the others so i may be popping in here to pick your brains a bit more often after this week.~

Remington will be 1 year old on Thursday, Jan 3.
He's been a very smart boy to train so far. I just need to work with him more often. I'm actually surprised by how much he is retaining and willing to do in the short time I have worked with him

All of my dogs LOVE to work with me. Even Magnum, who absolutely hated the obedience ring, will light up if I have her heel a small pattern with me, come front, and finish left, and "get closer" to my leg. She smiles so big it's a joy!
