Rocky and I started our first Rally-O class tonight. Things went well enough. It's a small group which is great (we get enough time to run thru drills - but no pushing the dogs either).
My boy seems to have forgotten a few things he used to know (sit/go around) but that's mostly due to my lack of practice (I've worked on other skills like flyball/tricks)
It's more fun than I thought it would be
homework for the week: Sit/walk around - sit/down - down/walk around

I am teaching Remington Rally too!
Our class doesn't start until December 8 (I'm teaching a Rally Novice Class) but I've signed up for Rally Novice B on Dec 1, so I need to start teaching him the ropes.
It IS fun.
Be sure to do your homework!!!!
Rally is so much fun. You're going to like it.

Hee hee, that's pretty much my homework for this week too!! I haven't worked on it at all, and then we went to try it and Baloo would shuffle his little butt so he was facing me where ever I went. : :P Basically saying, "where do you think you're going with those cookies, lady...??"Originally Posted by Tanya
So we learned some techniques that helped, now we just have to practice practice practice!!

Peanut - 7 year old minpin
Monster - 3-ish year old frenchie/jack, rescue
Fun!!! I love rally- so much fun, almost like a "schooling class" for those who are into horses. I don't get nearly as nervous for those classes, knowing that I can constantly talk to my dog.
Good luck! Looking forward to progress reports!

That's great - I know you'll have fun. I've never been to rally classes - a gal started one up at our club, but it didn't start till 8:30, which would have put me home after 11 pm in the middle of the week - couldn't do it.
thanks everyone (it's nice to be in a sport other members know about - the flyball/sport section is veryyyy quiet!)
We learned a few tricks for teh sit/stay. the teacher encourages lots of treating at first. I actually don't feed as much as most (honestly, Rocky looses all concentration when I feed him so I balance that fact with the need to encourage him/reward good behavior).
I talk almost none stop though If we continue in this we'll be a funny duo to see!
I keep asking if it's a fault for his tail to knock something (his tail doesn't stop and hits the cones/posts) poor guy!eek! yeah I coudln't do an 8:30 class either - I go to bed at 9:00pm LOL!Originally Posted by patm

YAY!!! Rally is sooo much fun!! I know Henery enjoys rally more than formal obedience, at least at the Novice level!!
You're gonna have a blast!!

Good girl for talking to your dog non-stop.
You wouldn't believe how I have to get on my students about NOT talking to their dogs. I like to hear a constant banter going.
