Anyone know when mixed breed dogs will be able to compete in performance events at AKC trials. I want to start getting some of my students excited enough to help out at our AKC A Match on the 20th. Letting them know they WILL be able to compete later will really help Is it 2008?
It hasn't been decided yet. I don't even think the board has met on it yet and then it goes to the fancy for approval. I'd say more like 2009 or 2010.

I was gonna say the earliest would probably be 2010, because they would still have to answer some questions about entries and such plus they would have to set up a registry for mixed bred dogs etc..
They still haven't decided if they will yet.

Ok, I thought it would be sooner.
FWIW, I am not for this happening. I still believe AKC is "devoted to the sport of the pure bred dog". I don't think it would be wise of them to change their entire mission statement.
But I guess if they see $$$, they will do it.

That's basically what I told our club delegate too. I would HOPE if they decide to go ahead, that they'd give priority to purebred entrants in the case of trials that have limited entries. I will not be happy at all if one of my girls were bumped by a mixed breed, and furthermore, I'm really concerned w/ potential temperament/control issues with newbie owner/competitors. As it stands now, most of us recognize certain breeds as potentially unsettled, but w/ a mix, it's hard to predict. JMO. -AnneOriginally Posted by raian
