    Has anyone used one?

I think we need one. :

Are they all about the same? Any suggestions on where to get one?

I used one for a little while when transitioning to all off lead. I got one with a wooden handle and the nylon string is not very long. Try J and J or Max200.

    Thanks y'all.

J&J has an 18" and a 24". Which do you think would be better? I'm leaning towards 24", to have a little more slack. If I get 18", there will be almost no slack if my hand is on my stomach in heel position. Thoughts?

We recently made shark lines in class to help transition the dogs to off-leash. We cut little thin, short dowel rods and tied fishing line around them after making an indentation in the middle of the wood to hold the line on better. I am having a difficult time using mine correctly (what's new :-\). The idea is that the dog doesn't know you are holding the line, but I found it almost impossible to sneak this in on Emilu. Then I cut it too short and it doesn't work at all. We're going to go "bare" to train off-leash!

They are supposed to help you transition to off-leash work...it's a thin braided steel cord wrapped in plastic, almost invisible and very lightweight. So, SUPPOSEDLY , the dog doesn't know he/she is still on leash.

You can check them out at J&J:

I really need to work off lead with Moose so I'm thinking I should get one too. The last time we worked off lead in class he thought it was play time as soon as I took the lead off. It was kind of cute, but a little annoying once we started working. I think this would definately help us.

Never used one because we integrated the e-collar into our training at the off-leash stage...
