    DefaultPre-Novice question

So, I've got Angus entered at the end of January for one day in Pre-Novice. I know how Novice works, but not sure I have the drill down for Pre-Novice:

Does it go exactly the same as Novice except for doing both heeling patterns on lead? And what about recalls...they are off-lead then, right? In Novice, the lead is removed after Stand for Exam. What about Pre-Novice? Before the recall?

Will we get a "score?" I know it doesn't count towards a title, but I would still like to be scored.

I cannot tell you how much pressure it relieved to just do Pre-Novice with Angus. That in itself tells me I did the right thing.

I just want him to be 100% when he does go into the ring. I think he has such potential, but we still have so many bunnies happening. I think when the bunnies are gone he's going to be fantastic. And I don't want to do it until he is fantastic.

All of Pre-Novice should be done on lead, including recalls. Best thing is to get a copy of the AKC obedience rules. I carry mine with me to every trial and re-read the rules and regulations before I show. A very handly thing to have if you don't have one and they are not expensive at all.

I just looked in my Obedience Regulations book (I picked one up at the show last year), and the only non-regular class they describe is Graduate Novice.

How do you do the recall on lead? Just go to the end of the lead and call them? ??? Shoot. I love watching Angus do recalls from across the ring. I will miss that.

Yep recall is done at the end of the 6 foot lead.

The pre novice section is on page 60, of the rule book revised on Jan 2005, just before the picts of the jumps. (It took me awhile to find it the other day).

I am considering entering Kodi and Hoss in pre-novice in Feb!

Ah, that explains it. I have one from 2003. Well, thanks. Boy, that's going to be weird doing such a short recall. We better practice!

Really, you're doing Kodi and Hoss in Pre-Novice??? Just for grins?

You will rarely see them at all breed shows. Usually you find the non regular classes at matches and trials put on by obedience clubs.

While we have done Rally, no traditional obedience yet on Kodi or Hoss. Kodi can do it I am sure. Hoss, well, we'll see. He's such a goof ball, and if there is a Sheltie nearby...oh gawd...I hate to think of what might happen! He has a "thing" for them...play I hope, not aggression.

I'd like to do Novice with them by fall, Open next spring, Utility...well we'll see. Kodi does all the Open exercises (at home and our training building, which has UKC and AKC trials every year), but.... oh lordy, I am nervous just thinking about it!

Karen, you're too funny! We all get a bit nervous. Actually now that I'm in Utility it isn't as bad as before. Maybe when we have two legs towards our UD I'll get a little nervous until that third comes, but we're still working for our first!
