DefaultSaturday Agility Results - UPDATED for SUNDAY

Well, I was eligible for the 'Double NQ Raffle' so I guess that tells you our scores :P :P

But, he didn't do *too* terribly. None of the running around with a dazed/shell shocked look and trying to escape.

Standard. Started decently....slight slip-up on the teeter, but he still made the contact, even though he went on sideways :P The table brought about our downfall though....he did a nice quick down, held his stay.....but the table smelled SOOOOOO interesting. Once off the table I never got his full attention back. We still made the tricky turn to the tire....but he went under, then ran in circles taking the A-frame and a tunnel and walking over the broad jump and sniffing etc. Got whistled off the course....surprise surprise.

Jumpers. Started great. I even managed to send him wide and then do a *perfect* rear cross. But, I expected him to spin on his rear cross...he ALWAYS does. So I had planned for that in my handling strategy...but he DIDN'T spin. So I got messed up and sent to the wrong obstacle with some freakishly confusing hand gesture. He ended up going between the obstacles and then running off. BUT - I called and this time he came back. So I grabbed him and ran for the treats :P

I see the *slight* possibility of finishing a course, tomorrow.

    --------------------SUNDAY------------------
The judge had somewhat awful courses....basically, she just made an excellent course and removed obstacles for open, and removed a couple more for novice.

Still no Qs, but we did better than before.

(btw, this time *thankfully* he was NOT the worst one there :P)

I was always under the impression that there were not 180degree turns etc in novice? Is that true? (we had a ton of them, plus some really tricky stuff ----- there were only 3 Qs in Novice)

Don't be too hard on yourself. You're just starting. It sounds like you had a couple of good go's.

Rear cross, good for you. My dear, to the day Ruger will not do a rear cross. I avoid them at all cost. If I try to sneak one in he'll stop dead and we collide. Rear cross and off-side weaves are tools we don't have, but we've managed and are one leg away from Excellent. So you can do it... just be creative

It depends on the judge. I've had some tough novice courses. But honestly, both of my dogs like tight twisty courses. I think that's why we've done so much better in AKC vs USDAA. In USDAA the courses tend to be longer and cover more ground.

    Yay Zeke!

Somewhere in the AKC judges guidelines there are rules about approach angles etc, but I can't find it ... it's always possible that it went away with the new rule changes ...

All Novice Classes – Generally not exceeding
90 degrees, but must not exceed two times at
    135 degrees.

We had one 180, a couple about 100, a few 90, and one set of 3 straightaways.

Yup ... so theoretically it could have been HARDER *shudders* but I've hardly ever seen any 180s in Novice
