The timing could not have been better. Our obedience trainer just put an OTCH on her Lab (who already has a MH), so she wanted to do tracking. And I wanted to try tracking with Scotty. So, we got together today. The weather was perfect, sunny and warm and not much wind. She laid the first two tracks for Scotty and guided us step-by-step through the first track. We did better on the second. Then we alternated for a while between her dog doing a track, then Scotty doing a track. We used pieces of hot dog every other step, and Scotty was definitely getting the idea!!! All the tracks were straight and about 30-35 yards. Will do more of the same this week, then we're meeting again on Saturday. Hopefully by then, we'll be able to do more complicated tracking.
OMG! This sounds like sooo much fun! Very cool!
Would you be able to do a little "tracking diary" for those of us who are interested in learning more about it? As in- week 1, what exactly did you do...just make a "Hansel and Grettel" (for those who remember that kids' fable) type of track using food every couple of feet? What did you do at the end of the "track"?
I can't wait to hear more about it!!! ;D

I am very excited for you! Just be careful not to move too quickly, ie. more complicated tracks before they get the idea of what you are trying to show them!
Best of luck to you!
Sounds like fun!!! Scotty is going to be very well-rounded. ;D
My friend at the club, Anna, is doing tracking right now with her Irish Wolfhound. They just started. She is really enjoying it.

Gone ahead, but forever in my heart:
Crash, Pit Bull x Rottweiler x Golden Retriever
sounds like you had a great time! It will be something you and Scotty can enjoy.
BTW, how is his elbow/leg doing? I hope he's feeling better.
Linda, thanks for asking about his elbow. I upped his Rimadyl and with all the support from JL, he was doing better this morning!
Julie, I'll post a week one recap by the end of the week! The logistics were very interesting to me, too.
