    SmileGot myself a puppy!

I haven't posted on this forum in awhile. It seemed to get pretty quiet here.

I know I am in the obedience and tracking forum but this is pretty much where I have always hung out here. I got a puppy in September. I have had him 7 weeks. Needless to say, I have been VERY BUSY!

He is a black, field line lab. I was on the fence about getting a field line but I just couldn't pass this guy up. I am glad I didn't. He is a great pup! He is smart as a whip and has learned so much so fast! He is totally into me and wants nothing more than to please me. He IS having a hard time learning that biting me is not pleasing to me but he is getting there.

He is going to be my next obedience, agility and possible hunt test dog.

So far we have worked on alot of impulse control work - crate games, the zen game, which are developing into his "stays".

Also lots of tricks that build our relationship, stimulate his brain and help develop rear end awareness. He knows to "go to bed" (mat work), "get in the basket" (laundry basket). He loves his bosu and his learning to pivot around it (front feet on and back feet pivot around). He will tug on the bosu. He will balance on the bosu round side down. LOVES IT. He pounces to it! LOL! I am trying to teach him to back up but having a little trouble with that one.

Of course, we are working on the foundational obedience and agility stuff. Heeling, walking at side (right side), sit, down (he downs fast on the verbal cue), stand, starting to do some "cookie mark" games. I have him chase and hold a dumbbell from time to time. We are do agility flat work sending him around poles while I do various crosses. He is on a travel plank 2 on 2 off with a target.

HE LOVES IT ALL!! Of course it is all just a series of games we play and any game with "mom" is a great game to him!

He is such a delight to work with, I am so glad I found him. Well, I should say found the breeding. When I got to come see the litter, I had a choice of 5 puppies. He picked me. I really wasn't looking at him at all the first day I was there. I was focused on 2 other males who were a bit smaller. He wasn't having it. On the day I had to make my final choice and drive home with Hartley, this guy made it clear that he wanted to be the one going home with me. So here he is.

So we embark on a whole new adventure with dog number 2!

I forgot to mention that he has loves ducks and pigeons, dead ones, that he can hold. Of course, he is learning to be an awesome hiking buddy like his "big brother" Miles.

Congratulations! He isn't one of the pups from the litter Petra Ford's Tyler sired, is he? I'm thinking they're about that age now.
