DefaultOur weekend at the Ashtabula shows

Well, Micah got his 8th and 9th RAE legs this weekend with placements three out of the four runs. I was not that happy with the runs and though the judges were being gracious with their scoring, but he got his double q's. One more and he's done and I can concentrate on getting him ready for the Novice ring. I keep having to remind myself that he's just 2 years old physically but mentally probably only about 6 months, if that!

Caleb had two none qualifying runs in Utility, both on directed jumping. The first day he anticipated the jump and today just did not stop and sit until he was between the jumps. But his heeling was nice, I must admit.

One thing with it being an MB-F show--the mats were filled with really good smells and both boys had some issues with the nose to the mat and loosing focus. Something we'll be woking on, that is for sure!

Susan, I thought Micah looked great out there, but I said the same about our scores too. I wasn't happy with our runs either. We had the same issues with the sniffing. I didn't realize that had anything to do with MB-F shows. So they provide the matting? Oh boy, that explains alot. Like you, I plan to do lots of heeling work and with all kinds of stuff on the floor.

I have noticed dogs are more sniffy inside where we train than they have been too. I think that now that everything is thawing, we and our dogs are tracking interesting smells, smells that haven't been inside for a few months, into the rings.

Susan - Congratulations on Micah's RAE legs. For a pup so young still, that's really terrific. I know what you mean about chronological age vs mental age. I used to say that Doro at about 10 had finally "grown up." I doubt you'll have to wait that long for Micah. Sorry about Caleb's Utility NQ's but good that you were pleased with his heeling. Guess we always have to find something positive in every attempt. B

    Way to go Micah!

Oh, I hate those MB-F mats. The last ones at our show were beat to hell as well, all torn up. They really need to invest in some newer ones.
