We went to our first match this weekend.
First run he started the weaves wrong due to a really late front cross by me blocking him from the right side. Then, I gave him his contact command (touch) and at the end of the dogwalk he promptly turned around and did it again, touching perfectly on the other side. So then we did it the right way again, and finished the course.
Second run was better but he dropped a bar.
Third run was clear and in good time despite me treating at each contact
Learned a lot too
1. We've been practicing with the wrong height table
2. I need to run a lot faster!!
3. I've been focusing so much on contact behavior that my handling skills have really suffered.
4. We need to run more full courses and work on distance more
I think I'll enter a trial in April and give it a go - Jake is definitely ready, it's me getting my act together!

thats awesome, sounds like a good start! Yes getting our own act together is the hard part!!!
Sounds like an overall good weekend..I always tell students..training the dog is easy..training you is harder..*G*..All our dogs would be better if we were better handlers

Nice job! Doing is the best way to learn!

Congrads on your agility success!
Sounds like you and your dog had a great time!
Wonderful. Glad you had some great training and success in the ring too!
Sounds like you know what to work on and that's a great help. I think the hardest thing for a novice pup is to actually run courses. Rarely happens in a class setting and that makes it harder to be ready to do a trial. Run Thrus and Matches are great tools to help. I go whenever I can with both of my pups and each time I learn something - mostly that I need help!!! LOL.
