I'm seeing that a lot of you mix these up in food processors to a mash like consistency then feed. Is it okay to just feed them cut up, fresh?
I always have feed green beans to help fill Ruger's belly and keep weight down. I've added other veggies to their diets and have never mashed them up (except I do Squish Magnum's green beans in my hand because she doesn't like them whole).
Just wondering if this is simply convenience for you, or does it help them digest better?
It is my understanding that pureeing the veggies breaks them down allowing them to be digestable to the dog.
Yep, otherwise it's just going to pass right out. Literally. I give Jes carrots as fat-free low calorie treats and you can see the chunks of carrots in his poop. Because their digestive tract is much shorter than ours, they can't digest veggies unless they're pureed.Originally Posted by ThatsMyGirl
That's also why the green bean trick works. They feel full, but they don't digest any of it so they're not getting any nutrition (or calories) out of them.
Yep, what the others said.
Also, mine much prefer veggies pureed. Even my total food hogs will reject many raw vegtables but in pureed form they love it.
Okay,I guess I'll be blending/mashing up some veggies
