Our local Food Lion will really reduce prices on meats that need to be sold (expiration day is that day).

Today I got a nice big lamb shank steak for $1.41. It will give me two meals. I also picked up some Turkey necks... there were six of them in the package for $.69.

I've never fed Turkey necks before and planned on cutting them up but found I couldn't cut them, so I'm freezing them two to a package and will give them whole and hope they don't choke on bones. Yep, I've not fed bones yet, still a bit worried about it.

Hint hint hint. I took some chicken breast out of the freezer today to thaw it. It got partially thawed and I cut it up. Very easy to cut up like that. I'm using Ender's idea of putting stuff directly into Tupperware so all I have to do at feeding time is dump it in the bowl.

    wow... great deals.

Turkey necks are good... you'll definitely get to hear the *crunch crunch* ... oh no.. I hope I didn't just scare you away from them.

I gave Sam a frozen turkey neck, thinking it would hold him for a while, and it was gone in about 3 minutes.

Oh, I don't expect the turkey neck to last long at all, not the way my dogs eat. It will be part of a meal.

I use a meat cleaver since it can be hard to cut things up if they're too big. I've found that Cassie will try to chew the entire carcass and then choke on it if I don't cut it into pieces of a more manageable size for her. This may not be necessary for all dogs. Hildi and Hoshi used to chew the entire carcass into manageable bits to eat it and never had any trouble.
