Start here: Dog Food Reviews and Ratings | Dog Food Advisor

Determine which of the foods has the best rating and thus a better nutirtional value and quality. Start with the best food you can afford. Not all dogs do well even on the best of foods so you may have to change and tailor your choices as the time goes by.

Use what the breeder recommends and/or sends home with you. They usually know which food their dogs do well on. If it works, don't change it!

I agree with Kai's Dad for beginning.

But Ahtoxa has given you a very good reference for exploring quality.

However, if and when you ever DO decide to switch, you should make any change a very gradual one.

I disagree with all of the above. Dogs can survive on kibble, but they don't thrive on it. Whole food diets are best for dogs, especially those that contain antioxidants to provide protection against cancer. Natural protein sources are also easier on the kidneys, leading to lower incidences of kidney disease. Natural diets most cost more off the bat, but they save a fortune in vet bills (and personal grief) over the long haul.
