so i have a 6 1/2 month male lab. i am slowly transitioning him to a raw diet. he has eaten beef and beef bones and loved. i gave him some frozen flounder fillets and he loved. i bought him some chicken thighs and he wont eat. he kinda picks up and carries then drops, will sniff a bit, then completely ignores after that. is it something he might grow into? i tried the whole piece first. next day i realized might have been too big so i gave him just the leg yesterday. still wants nothing to do with it. raw diet wont really work without chicken bc of it being so much cheaper. once deer season starts he will be getting deer, any wild boars i shoot, and in winter will get some duck as well. i didnt fish much this year but he will also get figh i catch (bream, catfish, etc)
but any tips about the chicken?
i meant to say i bought him leg quarters, not thighs
Will he eat just the meat and not the bone?
Ernie refused to eat chicken necks. He would lick them and leave them somewhere. Usually the sofa so stopped giving them to him.
If he refuses to eat them there isn't much you can do, but think he will.
I don't feed raw but as I understand it, necks are easy for them to eat. Try turkey or chicken necks and see if that helps.
Sharon, Blaise and Diesel.
I also would try the necks or backs. Will he eat chicken breasts, no bone? If so, try some of the pre made raw, raw chicken with the bones ground up (or gring yourself, but that takes a special grinder). If that works then try the necks and backs (trying to gradually introduce the flair and texture of bones).
