DefaultGood source of calcium in raw diet ?

My pup if 6 months has been a raw diet for 3 months now and loving it. He's stopped the itching since being off the kibble but was just wanting too add calcium to the diet. What's a good source and what else should I be introducing incase he's missing out on the important bits! He's currently eating 3 different types of protein a week and fish every other day! Any suggestions ? I heard kelp is good also is that right?

If he is getting bones (chicken necks) and you are feeding sardines, I would doubt you need to add calcium. Too much calcium is not good and encourages quick growth - bad for joints.

Have you researched a complete raw diet?

I agree with Sharon, if you have properly researched a RAW diet for your pup, calcium should not be an issue. Necks, wings and backs should be sufficient. When I considered RAW for my pups, the experts in my world (and they have done generations of dog's in RAW), said chicken wings were nearly the perfect food for RAW pups. (and yes, there is a great deal more to that statement).

I've touched base with the vets and a dedicated raw food pet shop and got a fair food plan from them. Didn't know there was plenty of calcium in chicken bones as he has turkey necks and chicken frames in the plan. Tripe most days along with veal necks also so I think I got most bases covered. I have also got offial on the odd occasion from the local butcher. I did see a selection if chicken hearts and Sheep liver/kidney in the super market is this ok to use . I heard these organs are great too!

As long as you are feeding a good variety of protein he is getting enough calcium. What are you feeding for protein. Neck bones have alot of bone mAke sure there are boneless meals in there. Heart is a good source of boneless meat. Beef heart is really good for them.

It is a great forum. Kelp is good.
There is a NZ Natural raw site on yahoo that is good. They know the best places to get stuff here. http://pets.groups.yahoo.com/group/n...aldog/messages I haven't feed a puppy raw so not sure what is the best thing for them.
