Hi Kassabella, Sophiesmama recommended I contact you on Osteosarcoma of the Jaw. My 9yr old black lab Toby had stinky breath, I found something growing on the inside of his lower left gum. The vet removed it, along with his back second molar. It was biopsied and came back Osteosarcoma, high grade tumor. We have an appointment with an oncologist for a consultation in two weeks.
Do you have any info for me that would be helpful?
I am sorry for your loss, you can be the mentor on this horrible cancer for all of us! Thank you so much for your time
    Fondly,

Hi, I am so sorry for your loss. Did you joing the BCD yahoo group.? Did I comment on your thread/ Sorry to be so vague. My husband has been very ill the last 6 weeks and hadn't been in for a few weeks before.
If I did I am so sorry I wasn't there for you. Having someone to identify with is the very reason for Kassa web site and not being there for you and your dog is terrible of me.
I am glad it helped a little.
Any time you would like to share your story for her web site when you feel up to it I would be honoured to have it there. We can not bring them back,, but maybe it can help someone else.

I am so sorry for your loss and wish there were words to help you aching heart.
Welcome to the forum. Wonderful place to learn and share your Lab.

    Take care
    Chris..

    (part two, read below first...)

Jersey fought for about a month, the tumor growing down into her mouth, invading her sinus, and then threatening to take over the eye before we made the decision to put her down. Even the day we took her to the vet, she was wagging her tail and seemed happy. But she had stopped taking food, and we knew the tumor had to be very painful at that point. Jersey was almost 10 years old, which was pretty old for a Dane, so we were lucky to have a nice, long life with her.

I just wanted to thank you for sharing Kassa's story, and info on bone cancer of the jaw. It helped us cope with what we were going through. : )

    Kassabella,
I just wanted to reach out and thank you for sharing Kassa's story with bone cancer. My husband and I lost our Great Dane Jersey to bone cancer of the jaw last month. We are getting a new lab puppy next month so I signed up for the forum, then I saw you and your links, and realized that I had read your story after we received Jersey's diagnosis. Jersey had developed a lump on her cheek and wasn't eating well, so we took her to the vet thinking she had a tooth abscess. They did the surgery and did find and abscess as well as 5 other teeth that were bad or loose. 3 hours of surgery later, and the vet let us know that in the one tooth, they had found suspicious granulation of tissue. A week later the biospy came back malignant.

When I got Ernie he would run at people who came to the door, jump at them and run away. I tied him to the bedroom door handle and trained him to sit quietly. Loads of treats. I then had people knock on the door and when he sat quietly treated him and opened the door. People aren't allowed to talk to him. (This is important for us)
I can now leave the door open and he wont go past that spot. If I go outside he sits and waits then goes to the pantry for his treat. lol
Sometimes if people get excited or Tessa or Gems run out he will run to the door, but goes back to the spot on command. I am doing it with Tessa at the moment as she jumps and nips.

Be consistent so he knows what you expect. Good luck. Lots of work having a dog, but worth it.

Hi, a trainer would be better to advise you, but here is what I do.

Labs love people. I thought they laid around all day and behaved. Silly me...

I tell visitors don't pat them, look at them or acknowledge them in any way. Mine go to a mat to so they can't jump around until I release them.
While training I use lead so I can correct them. Lots of treats & praise for being good. Mine sit in a spot in the hall while I open the door

When I come home I do not look at them until they are sitting quietly on their mats. Then treats, pats, game.

I don't set them up for failure if they are to excited as they wont listen. You getting excited and yelling makes it worse. I keep calm & don't get excited.

Always follow up the command no matter what you are doing or next time you give a command they ignore it.
Use lots of treats. You are responsible for the dog.I never let anyone reprimand mine or give them commands.

    Hope this helps.

Hi chris, can you plz help me out.I have a couple of friends who visit my place on the weekends and as soon as they come home simba goes crazy,it tries to break everything which is on his way to reach them, he plays with them obeys what all they say(which i have tought him) as long as they are there he doesnt care about me doesnt evn bother to look at me how many evr times i take his name, where as if my friends call his name he comes running like mad crazy, evn if they through him away he wants to go near them(for which i warned them). It would not have bothered me if it would evn come to me atleast once when i call him,my friends make fun of my dog that it obeys to everyone except his master, which really is hurting me.Its fine even if he doesnt obey me but atleast if it shows little love towards me its more than enough nothing else bothers me infront his love.i dint post it as a thread as i dont wanna take more pain.i wanted to share it with someone who can understand it and advise me.
