Does anyone else's lab have little spots on their elbows where the hair is worn away? My lab lays on the deck sometimes, and I think it may be from when she "hitches" herself into a more comfortable position. I didn't know if others had it or if it was just her!

I think they're just elbow calluses. Baloo will get them in the summer when he lays on the hard flooring, and then they go away in the winter when he spends more time sleeping on the dog beds and other soft places.

I think it's a myth that the fur rubs off from hard surfaces. My 5 are couch potatos. They have beds, are allowed on the furniture, etc. My oldest's elbows are bare, my next 2 are patchy. Even one of my 7 month old pups was getting some worn fur on his elbows. I would hate to think the carpet is just too rough on my poor baby!

I dunno, Baloo got them really mildly last summer, then they went away completely in the winter, and he got them back in the summer, now they're starting to go away again.

The only thing I can think of is that he sleeps on the floor to stretch out and cool down (tile/carpet/metal in the crate) in the summer and not the winter.

I think its a coat thing, Baloo has less coat in the summer, so its easier to see the calluses. In the winter time, its furrier in the area.. I know this is the case with Ruby.

Vitamin E cream everyday on the elbows helps.

I remember checking last year though and the skin was just like anywhere else, callous totally gone, hair all grown in. Odd.

    Maybe mine's the weird one.
