DefaultIs my dogs position when sitting normal or possibly a sign of hip problems?

Hello everyone. Hope all is well with you all.

I am curious about my dog's sitting position. When he sits, his back feet angle outward and his knees sort of inward. It is very obvious and my other lab doesn't sit like that at all. Could this be a sign of dyplasia? I also notice that when i rub/massage gently his back hip area, he sort of shows a sign that it might be painful by reaching his head to my hand and doing a little nibble-like bite. As to tell me it is possibly sore?

Any help with this would be great. He is almost 2 yrs old. He doesn't limp at all and lays down and gets up with no problem. Also, he walks up and down stairs fine.

    Thanks!

Can you take a couple of pictures? One of him sitting, one from the side and one from behind looking over his back.

It looks exactly like Henrysmom's yellow lab!

    Ah!! He's got the Henery-spread!

I'm glad to meet another who sits like my Hens! I don't know if it's a sign of hip problems to come, but I will say that Henry's hips have been xrayed and came back fine. This was a few years ago, he's 5 now.

*Can* your pup sit properly (ie. square)? Henry can, but this is his preferred position. LOL!

As for the potential soreness in your pup, if you're concerned, I would probably have your vet check it out, just to be sure. Welcome to the forum!

Shane sits this way too, he is able to sit normal too, but in obed. class it's not uncommon for him to sit with his legs spreading out.

I don't think that way of sitting says anything about his hips. I have one that sits kinda like what you're describing and two that never sit straight (flop into a puppy sit). Everyone (knock wood) has good hips.

The nibbling is saying that feels wonderful...both my boys "return the favor" when I scratch them

Oh Good! Thank you guys for the info! I really appreciate it!
Yes he is able to sit regularly when asked to sit. He will just sit that way when he is sitting for a while just hanging out. So it MUST be more comfortable for him!
    Thanks again!!!
