    Defaultear troubles

My senior lab will be 13 next month. She has never had ear troubles till now.
Just after we moved in Nov she started to get ear infections in her left ear.
We just can't seem to get it cleared up.
    Any suggestions?
We have tried using ear cleaner, Barrows and now Surolan.
    It still keeps coming back.

Her other problem is that she has lost her hearing since this has all happened.

    What should be do???

She is eating the same food, takes the same meds as before.

The house is new so it there something in here bothering her with her ears, is that possible??

I'd take her to a vet. They can culture the gunkies in her ears to tell you if it's bacterial or yeast, or both. (If you have taken her and they haven't done this yet, I would take her back and request it.)

Anti-bacterial stuff won't have much effect if it's yeast, and likewise as well. So best to know what you're up against.

    Thanks for your reply.
The vet did that at the start and it was yeast.

Well to me that's much better than the other alternative. Yeast can be controlled by diet. So I'd slowly and gradually switch her onto a grain-free food or something of the like, and start cleaning her ears with the purple stuff. Hopefully that will help!

Here's a link for "the purple stuff":

I use witch hazel instead of the alcohol.

If you just want to order it you can get it here:

    Thanks for the info
I ended up taking her to the vet today as she was shaking her head/ears a lot.
They have taken another swab to be sent off to see what this is that is bothering her.
They give her a shot of something like dextra............ and put her on some meds till Tues when the culture should come back.
I will let you know the outcome of this then.
    Thanks again.
