DefaultOK, so now I have to ask... (deworming question)

How often do you have your dogs dewormed??

Henery was as a pup, of course but never since then, none of our vets have ever mentioned it, despite Henery's penchant for poop and dead-animal eating. :vomit:

He has always been kept up to date on his heartworm meds and I faithfully give it once a month (I don't even try to stretch it to 45 days). We go June-November here for HW. He was on Revolution from the time he was a pup until last year, when I switched him to Sentinel.

Revolution has no deworming meds, but Sentinel is supposed to control rounds/whips/some hooks and flea eggs.

    Thoughts??

You know, I thought about that last night after your charming picture : )

Our horses were always dewormed regularly. But no one has said anything like "hey, you need to deworm your dog every _____" We did it when they were pups and if anything came up in fecals (never has).

I don't do sentinal. I don't like my dog ingesting flea medicine. If I think I need a flea med, I use Frontline.

Heartgard plus is basically all you need (or Interceptor). I only deworm if there are symptoms. I don't de-worm on a regular basis. Don't want the little nasties to build up an intolerance to the meds.

My mum's vet (she's in Ontario too) has just instituted a twice yearly worming protocol

I don't generally worm dogs or cats unless there is a problem - my guys are on revolution tho which does kill a number of parasites beyond the heartworm

(I do routinely worm puppies and kittens)

Thanks Laura!! I was planning on switching Henry to Interceptor this year because of that very reason.

I have much to discuss with my vet!!!

Felicia, I'm also doing HW all year round now too. I think that helps in keep the nasties under control.

Yeah they are disgusting. I've told this story about Murphy many times, but she had tapes once. She pooped a nasty mess on the kitchen floor. Part of the tapeworm was hanging out of her anus and the damn thing wiggled back up into her butt. I puked in the sink it was so disgusting.
