A couple of years ago when my ex and I were going through are breakup, Oona was at the vet for her yearly vet visit Oona weighed 89 lbs. I was bound and determined to get that weight off of her because I had read that excess weight could diminish her length of life by as much as two years. So I put her on a strict diet, no people food, no extra goodies. I upped her workout routine as well. We are on the water by 6am, she swims for an hour and then we go for a two hour hike. Then we come home and she sleeps for the rest of the day. Last week I took her in to the vets for baseline bloodwork, so we have something to compare to if in case she is ever sick. Oona weighs 72lbs! The vet was thrilled and pointed to a chart on the wall ranging from the extremely underweight dog to the grossly overweight, in the middle is the perfect dog. Proudly she said, "That is your dog in the middle. I rarely do I ever see Lab at this age look this good."
