    DefaultAntifreeze Poisoning

    Hi,
My beloved black lab was poisoned by antifreeze this last week and is barely clinging to life. His kidneys have almost shutdown and he is barely passing any urine. they are giving him intravenous fluids. we are hoping he did not get a lethal dose but I was wondering if anyone out there could give us some encouragement or experience?

Is there ANYTHING else we can do to save SHADOW?

They need to make those companies who make that crap do something about this problem.

    Thank you,

    GW

I don't know anything else you can do, but wanted to say I am so sorry that this happened to Shadow and to let you know that my SIL's dog had kidney damage from poisoning (not from antifreeze, though), and he pulled through. I know he had fluids inserted under his skin, but don't know if he got any other form of treatment.

I did find information regarding antifreeze poisoning on the website www.peteducation.com. Here's a link: http://www.peteducation.com/article....articleid=2801

I don't know if this information is relevant to your dog's current condition, but thought I'd share just in case.

Anyway - just wanted to let you know that you and Shadow have my prayers.

Poor Shadow, I hope he pulls through.

If he is at the vets under close monitoring that's pretty much all you can do. They use the IV fluids to hopefully flush his system out and remove the toxin... I'll send some good thoughts for him!

I'm so sorry that you have to go through this. I'll send good thoughts your way.

There's really nothing else that can be done at this point. Just fluids, fluids, fluids to flush his system.

I'm so sorry -- I hope Shadow pulls through. And YES, the companies making it should do something to avoid this.

This is what we suspect happend to our Pup Aspen. We use the non-toxic to animal antifreeze, but pretty sure she got into while my mom was watching her! Good thoughts for a good outcome for Shadow! Di
