DefaultWhat do you guys think: Limping on front left leg

    Hi Guys,
This thing is really bothering me now. Rocky seems to limp on his left front leg every time after a long walk and the first thing in the morning when i take him out of the crate. He has just completed 6 months and weighs 62.2 pounds. I have scheduled a vet appointment and plan to get him X-rayed. When i called this morning to the vet the receptionist mentioned it could also be Lyme disease, i plan to have him test for that too. But could the Lyme disease cause the limp to be intermittent? he only limps after a long walk. I also spoke to his breeder and she said she never had any of her dogs develop OCD, she thinks it is pano. Any inputs? I have not been able to sleep well since last night as i took him for a long walk(1hr) and was really limping after that. His appetite is great BTW.

    Thanks,
    Rocky's dad

could be a number of things. getting the xray is the right thing to do. is there an orthopedic vet in your area you could see? sometimes it's best just going to them straight away.

is lymes prevalent in your area? my vet had me run tests on maddy for lymes when she had problems in her wrist. shamed me into doing them even though I knew lymes wasn't a problem in So. Cal (back when we lived there). Guess what, wasn't lymes...big surprise.

Yes, lymes disease is quite prevalent here in upstate NY. The thing that bothers me is this happens only after a long walk and for a few minutes every time i take him out of the crate in the morning, and all this happens only on the left front leg.

When you take him on the one hour walks, are you on pavement or grass?

It could be a number of things. Lyme test and x-rays will hopefully give you your answer.

Hoping its Pano - which they grow out of.

read up on FCP too, that way no matter what your vet says, you kind of have an arsenal of knowledge already. Also, with your breeder saying she's never seen OCD in her lines. Sometimes that stuff is genetic, sometimes it's environmental. Maddy had FCP in both her elbows (before the wrist incident I mentioned earlier) and while her breeder didn't seem to do elbow clearances (3 of all the dogs in the 3 generation pedigree had elbow clearances), Maddy was also very active jumping and catching frisbees from 4 months to 14 months when she had surgery. We fully believe environment had alot to do with her problem.

We just got back from the vet, Rocky tested negative for Lymes. The vet felt a slight twitch in his shoulder and did an X-ray, she thinks that it looks like Pano but gave him Meloxicam for 1 week. she also advised us to give him with full rest and if it still does not help, she would anesthetize and do a full x-ray and consult a radiologist.

I thought she should have done a full X-ray today itself, but i guess i will have to wait 1 week. Thanks for all the replies, please pray that it s just pano!!

I hope it's pano as well. Jazz was diagnosed with pano at 4-5 months, vet saw nothing in initial xrays, and it turned out to be ED once an experienced ortho vet looked at the radiographs. If the limping continues, i would definitely recommend a visit to an ortho specialist as many traditional vets do not have the experience to see orthopedic issues in radiographs. Wishing for the best!!
