    DefaultACL tear

Denver tore his ACL yesterday. probably stepped in one of his holes in the yard. he never showed any sign of pain but he just wouldn't put any weight on it. our vet is referring me to a specialist and i'll probably call around to other specialists to see what their prices are (any advice?). Definitely didn't have this budgeted but, oh well, thats the way it goes. anybody have any advice on pet insurance? Denver is 2 weeks away from his second birthday and its sad thinking he'll be in pain during it. its gonna be tough limiting his activity cause he is so active. i've read back a few pages looking for similar situations. any advice would be appreciated.

Pet insurance won't handle pre-existing conditions.

re: other specialists and prices -- where do you live? I've found that our Kansas State University CollVetMed Teaching Hospital is quite reasonable -- lower prices than locally.

Some SVM/CVM TH's require a vet referral, some let you self-refer.

This link gives the URLs for those in the US and Canada and their websites will indicate which is which:

BTW, I think in most instances you do NOT have to be a resident of the state or province to use the CVM/SVM located there.
