He could just be grooming in which case it would be considered normal. Excessive biting of the feet could indicate an irritation (thorn/grass seed stuck in the pad, etc.) or anything from mites to an allergy of some sort.

If they don't look red and inflamed, he is probably okay.

If it's constant and his feet are red I would have them checked out. How old is Roger?

My sisters mixed dog has always had terrible problems with her feet and ears she was constantly scratching her ears and chewing her feet. She was allergic to something but they couldn't figure out what. She had them so raw they bled. Vet finally (after 12 years :'() gave them the Hills Z/D food. I normally don't care for Science Diet/Hills food but this helped her SOOOOO much it was amazing after 12 years of fighting it she's finally not itchy anymore and her skin and ears are cleared up and her hair has all grown back.

This is a classic sign of allergies. Has he been seen by a vet?

Could be allergies...what is the dog eating. My try something with no grains or something like that?

Could be boredom - but that is much more rare.

    Are his paws getting raw?

No they are not getting raw...he doesn't bite them consistently ...just like maybe everyone now and then...could it be just grooming?

I had one that used to groom her feet. She slept with us and every night after she jumped on the bed she would lick them for about 5 min sometimes longer. Drove me nuts till she finally put her head down and went to sleep.

Mine both groom their feet on occasion.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you notice some raw areas/hair loss, things like that.

Licking from allergies will not necessarily cause raw areas or hair loss. I'd hope the dog would be seen by a vet long before that ever happened. Most of the time the skin around the area is pink/red from irritation and the fur will be saliva stained (looks sort of like rust).
