My 11 Month old lab was just diagnosed with localized demodectic mange. Obviously, not the best news, but the vet assured me most cases go away with time. Does anyone have any experience with this and thier lab(s)? Any advice?
Yep, here is a thread from a week or so ago:
Our vet said that he didn't want to put her on any systemic meds because he didn't feel as if it was bad enough to put her on a medicine that has a lot of adverse effects. I have an ointment I put on her eye area 3x daily, but he said that it really needs time to go away on its own. Her immune system should be able to handle it, in addition to the topical meds. He said he rarely sees this in dogs over 2.5 so it is probably due to their immature immune system.
One question: What is the supplement you put in your dogs food?
I would obviously check with the vet before I gave it to her.
Thanks for the advice

Henry had it when he was 7 months old. From what I remember, it's common in pups, the mites tend to proliferate due to their immature immune systems, or if their immune system is stressed at all. In Henry's case, he had just been neutered and had recently broken his toe. :-\ In any case, like you, we didn't have to do anything more than ointment.
Good luck with your pup!
