DefaultDeer, Squirrels and Chip Monks in my yard

    Hi all.

I have a question. I am planning on bringing a puppy home and I will have an area fenced in otherwise open woody lot. I have lots of squirrels, chip monks all over the place when there is no snow and eventually a deer family wondering around.

What are the risks in terms of disseases?

The fenced area will prevent deers to come inside, but the puppy will play (under supervision) and will be trained outside that area.

    What do you recommend?

I am just gradually getting ready to bring my puppy in a couple of months to a safe environment, and I am trying to be prepared.

    Thank you!

The puppy should be fine if you keep up to date with worming/flea/tick prevention.

I agree no worries as long as you keep it current on shots and preventatives. Try to prevent it from eating their crap (a delicasy for some some dogs :-X) but there shouldn't be much risk.

Because you have deer so close its imperative to use tick medicine year round. One thing you can do is hang bars of Irish Spring soap on the trees or fence. Deer hate that smell and won't come around it.
