Hi My 5 1/2 yr old choco lab hurt her knee this morning running after two darn skirrels.
I think she has pulled her knee ligament. We are off to the vet at 10:30. I have had two dogs before do this but wonder if the treatment is still surgery or something else?? Any suggestions or advice. Thanks.
How'd the vets go?
Me, Abzilla and the Helomonster.
Just got back from the vet.
They are doing xrays on her to see what she has done for sure although probably a torn ligament.
The vet talked about two methods. One a bit more extensive then the other but the xrays will prove as to which one will be best. Also she would have physio afterwards too.
Will keep you posted.
I haven't posted here in a while but this is the choco lab that has had the history of over 10+ mast cell tumor surgeries so she didn't need this on top of all of that.
Just to add to this we are moving in three weeks to a new house that may not get grass till spring...oh brother!
This dog is very very active and it will be hard to keep her down and quiet if she has to have it operated on.
Turns out she hasn't put on any weight at all. She just looks a little heavier.
Both my dogs are ticked off at the moment with the move. We have been going back and forth and they are not too happy about that.
Sorry to hear about the injury I hope the vets can tell for sure what's wrong and get her on the road to recovery soon.
Update - She ruptured her cruciate ligament. The xrays showed that her knee and hips are clear of any arthritis and that she does not have hip displacment.
So, we were told of the two options for treatment.
The Standard repair and the TPLO method.
With our lab's age (5yrs) and her very active nature we have chosen to go with the TPLO. The surgery will probably be not until late next week. Till then she is on Medcam with no stairs, running etc.
The cost well it is higher than we thought. Today's bill for xrays and consultation was $450 and the TPLO surgery will be around $3100.
So please keep my lab in your thougts for a good recovery. We move the week after she has her surgery so things here will be upside down for sure.
Oh, poor girl.....
I hope she's feeling better soon, and that you all get settled quickly into the new home.
Baloo - 5 year old black lab
Peanut - 7 year old minpin
Monster - 3-ish year old frenchie/jack, rescue
Oh no!! Sending good thoughts and prayers for a speedy and complete recovery!! Poor girl!
Oh, I'm so sorry. I hope everything gets better.
Sorry to hear this.
Prayers for a successful surgery and quick recovery.
Thank you for all your good wishes for my lab.
She is quiet today and hobbling around the kitchen when I let her out of her kennel to have a stretch.
She has been through so much, I just feel so sorry for her to have to go through this next. Hope she copes well with the surgery and then the move after the next week. My other older lab is not happy at all about the move.
Will keep you all posted.
