    DefaultQuestion about effects of anesthesia

Could it cause diarrhea? I saw Melissa's post in Felicia's thread and that got me wondering, but I didn't want to hijack. :-[ :P

Baloo was put under general anesthesia last tuesday, and late thursday/early friday he started a new bout with diarrhea. Could the anesthesia have caused it, or is that too much of a gap in between? ???

    Yup, that could be it.

The stress could be it too.

I know when some dogs get anxious that sends them into lucy goosey stools too.

Pretty well anything can if your dog is sensitive in that particular way.

Knock on wood, I've never had a dog with pooper problems.

Anesthesia can do crazy stuff and it depends on what kind they use and how sensitive the animal is.

Dogs are better than cats- but my cat had a severe neurological reaction to anesthesia during a routine dental, which caused stroke like symptoms. It took her weeks to be able to walk without falling again. When I worked at the clinic, I saw dogs that reacted poorly too.

Kate, you should chat with Connie (AngusFangus) about this... I believe Angus went space cadet after his last anesthesia.
